Are Polymarkets regulated?

Polymarket exists in a complex regulatory environment. 4M by the CFTC in 2022 and blocked from US customers from 2022 to December 2025.

The second Trump administration eased regulatory scrutiny, and in July 2025 the DOJ and CFTC ended investigations without new charges. Polymarket acquired QCEX (a CFTC-licensed derivatives exchange) in 2025 to operate legally in the US. Internationally: Polymarket is banned in 33 countries including France, Australia, Germany, UK, Canada (Ontario), Italy, Poland, Russia, Singapore, and many others due to gambling regulations, sanctions, or other legal restrictions.

The platform uses geo-blocking to enforce restrictions. Regulatory concerns include: Insider trading on military/government operations, war betting ethics, market manipulation, and CFTC/jurisdictional compliance.
