Polymarket was not always invite-only but has had restrictions. Why restrictions exist: Regulatory uncertainty in certain jurisdictions.
Capacity management during growth. Compliance with geographic restrictions. The 2022 CFTC settlement required restricting US users.
As of December 2025, Polymarket is openly accessible in the US. The invite system was temporary during the US ban period. Now new users can register directly.
